The Truth About Fragrance: Why “Unscented” Isn’t Always Safer
Many fragrances (even “natural” ones) can trigger headaches, allergies, and even disrupt hormones.
But it's a common misconception that “unscented” means safe for sensitive skin.
Because in the world of cosmetics and cleaning products, the truth is bit more complex.
“Unscented” essentially means a product has no noticeable odor, not that it's free of fragrance chemicals. Crazy, right?
Manufacturers may use masking or neutralizing agents, which are often synthetic and sometimes just as reactive as common fragrance ingredients.
While the label “fragrance-free” typically means that no aromatic chemicals (natural or synthetic) have been added, it doesn't mean it isn't full of toxins. Buyer beware: be sure to always check the ingredients, as some sources of unscented claims rely on denatured alcohols or chemical binders.
For a genuinely clean routine, opt for products that are both fragrance-free and transparent about their ingredients, or those scented only with pure essential oils. Your body will thank you.
